Experimentation Leads to Discovery

Puffy Painting

Experimentation is not just an aspect of science, it’s an aspect of everything–especially art. Art is a constant experiment; you test different mediums and try different techniques in order to find what works for you. Each artist has different mediums, techniques, and styles they prefer. Finding which ones you like are a major part of being an artist and in order to find these out you must experiment. I experiment quite often when it comes to my art.

I’m always trying new mediums whenever I get the chance. I know what mediums and techniques I prefer but I like trying to find new ways to elevate the mediums and techniques I prefer. I’ve come to realize I overall prefer 3D art but I do still like to paint so I’ve experimented to try to find a way to combine theses two things I enjoy.

Lots of experiments fail or go wrong but they teach us valuable things and bring us one step closer to a breakthrough.

I’ve painted 3D materials like wood and clay. I have also been finding ways to make my regular paintings on canvases have 3D aspects to them. One thing I’ve tried that I really like is after making a painting I’ll add Puffy-paint to the canvas to give it a 3D aspect. I find it to be a really fun thing to add that creates a really interesting look and a really nice texture. I also really like the way the puffy-paint feels on the canvas.

When being open to experimentation you allow yourself to be open to finding great things. Lots of experiments fail or go wrong but they teach us valuable things and bring us one step closer to a breakthrough. It can be frustrating and difficult but when we finally get good results it’s incredibly rewarding. So don’t be afraid just go and experiment!
