Being an illustrator, when the topic of art is brought up, I often forget about the performing arts! Recently, I went to see a band called Sevendust perform in Stroudsburg and I was blown away by their talent and skill as musicians!

Sevendust is a rock band formed in 1994. The band has five members: lead vocalist Lajon Witherspoon, bassist Vinnie Hornsby, drummer Morgan Rose, guitarist John Connolly, and guitarist Clint Lowery.

My partner and his father are fans of them so I was brought along to see them live. We got to meet the band members and watch them perform a soundcheck. Being up close to them was amazing! I was especially enthralled by drummer Morgan Rose. Growing up, I was interested in learning how to play the drums. But that dream got extinguished pretty quickly as I truly cannot keep a good rhythm at all… womp womp. But seeing Rose play was riveting! He is so confident and skillful– one thing that less experienced bands don’t take advantage of is their drummer. They act like a foundation to everything else so, if you spice that up, everything gets a little more interesting. I don’t know much about music so I can’t actually thoroughly dissect or discuss anything here but, you could really hear his talent! During the actual show, he would twirl and do tricks with his drumsticks. He even ended up throwing one super high up into the air and catching it! (I think… I’m a pretty short person so it was hard to see much of anything during the show…)

Overall they’re just such amazing performers! The other members are also just as skilled and did such a wonderful job. Their lead vocalist, Witherspoon, has such a soothing and amazing voice. Their on-stage presence was immaculate!

Before the band played, there were a couple openers. Although they did a fine job, the difference in skill, experience, stage-presence, and music quality was bright as day.

Alongside being able to see them live and seeing their soundcheck, we also got to meet the band! Obviously these interactions are short but, they were so very sweet and witty! Super cool overall and I highly recommend you check out their discography. I haven’t listened to all that much of their music, but my favorite song from them is “Disgrace”!
