This last weekend I took a break from the Barcelona life (which is basically just a break from real life) and went to Spain’s capital, Madrid. While there, I was able to visit two incredible art museums; Museo Nacional Del Prado and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.
The Prado contains genius artists such as Goya, Velazquez, Caravaggio, etc. and includes art from the 12th – 19th Century. The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, however, contains modern art. Its most well-known piece is Picasso’s Guernica, but it is also filled with a ton of other great pieces. Here are a couple that I really loved.

This piece was created by stapling ripped up posters onto canvas. The way the artist layered these pieces on top of each other reminded me of how I layer different colors with my acrylics. I love being able to see “earlier” paper layers peak through the sides of the top layers.

I was nearly in tears when I saw this piece. Before this, I had not been familiar with this piece or artist, so it was not as if anyone had told me how fantastic of a piece this is…it just struck me on sight.
