I believe every young artist draws inspiration from other craftsmen of their trade. Especially the greats. Michelangelo, Monet, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Picasso; all masters of their style period, their pieces are well known and they are looked to as ideal models.
Growing up with Royo art around me definitely influenced my work as an artist. His pieces emphasize color and texture most of all. I love the way he portrays and places his subjects along with the warm colors he uses. Even the blues have warm undertones.
Royos paintings have been shaping my idea of what art is since they have been a constant in my life. I have often tried to mimic his style and ideal and I see his influence even in my own paintings and drawings sometimes.
Mainly working with figures and cloth, Royo has an obvious patterns and style. I often times look to his techniques on capturing the figure but wish I could do the same with other subjects matters. I love having another artist, separate from ‘the greats’ that inspires me.
