Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well. If you’re in school, I hope your first couple of weeks of the semester have been going well! I’ve finally settled into my apartment and have been trying to get used to my new course schedule and commuter life. I’ve been loving the flexibility in my schedule, and it’s been allowing me to really get back into the ceramics studio and warm up for the upcoming projects this semester. In my last post, I mentioned that I would try and sketch out some ceramics ideas, and I was happy to get around to doing it. I’ll include the sketches below:
A couple of my sketches are honestly just things I need for my apartment, like the berry strainer, a wide-opening vase for cooking utensils, and a chip and dip bowl. The other sketches, like the deep bowl, mug, and small opening vase, are just requests from friends and family. I think if I draw out my sketches, I’ll feel more inclined to actually make them. I haven’t had a chance to explore the glaze options for each vessel, but hopefully that will come later.
As for my warming up on the wheel, I’ve made some things I’m pretty proud of already! I have two small vases, two larger vases, and a decent-sized bowl. I only remembered to take pictures of two of them, but I can’t wait to sketch out some glazing ideas for each of them soon. I was surprised at how quickly I was able to get back into the groove of throwing. I thought surely my excitement would interfere with my muscle memory, or I would forget some steps, but that wasn’t the case at all! Of course, I still have a lot of improving to do, but I’m just happy I get to continue right where I left off. Here are the pictures I remembered to take:
On another note, I’ve also been enjoying my new art studios, jewelry making, and watercolor. I’m genuinely so thrilled to be completely in my element, using my favorite materials and getting my favorite results. I love this stage of art, where I’m creating so many things and am waiting on kiln firings to see the results. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to keep documenting for you guys! Here are some progress photos from my other studio projects:
Well, I hope you guys enjoyed the post this week. I’m going to try and be a little more conscious of taking progress pictures for you all. I’m eager to share the results of my recent projects and introduce even more new ideas. Stay creative, everyone!
