Finally! Some News! In the Absence of You

Breaking News! The Mahady Gallery is now open for spring! With a brand new exhibit full of naked men! Artist Nathan Brad Hill’s work is being displayed for the month of February, unless it’s leap year and I somehow missed the memo, in which case it will be displayed until February 28th and closed on the 29th.

Nathan Brad Hall is a Brooklyn-based painter whose work explores the emotional and psychological depth of the human figure. Known for his luminous use of light and nuanced realism, he has shown his work extensively in group and solo exhibitions in NYC and beyond.

The exhibit is called “In the Absence of You” and, why not hear about it from the horse’s1 mouth?

In the Absence of You  is an exploration of presence shaped by loss, longing, and intimacy by Brooklyn-based artist Nathan Brad Hall. Nathan’s work centers the body as a site of emotional restraint, figures that exist in moments of pause rather than action—caught between exposure and self-protection. These bodies carry the weight of being seen, wanting to be seen, and resisting that visibility at the same time.

Light is used deliberately, often isolating the figure from its surroundings and turning the act of looking into something intimate and charged. Darkness functions as cover, safety, and tension rather than absence. The paintings do not tell stories so much as they hold states—longing, anticipation, vulnerability, loss.

The figures and portraits showcased in In An Absence of You stand in for shared experiences rather than specific identities, allowing space for projection and recognition. The work invites the viewer into a slow encounter, where intimacy is built not through spectacle, but through attention.”

Check it out in the Mahady Gallery, located on the first floor of Insalco, which in turn is located approximately directly parallel to the library, perpendiclar to the architecture building and also the natural science building and somewhat behind or in front of Loughran Hall. Stop by if you have a chance.
