If you’re anything like me, then you’re probably very particular about what kind of supplies and programs you use to create your works. Personally, it took me a while to find things that I felt the most comfortable working with.
When it comes to freehand work and sketching, I really like to use pens. I don’t know exactly why, but pencils really bother me. So even if I have to redraw something 100 times, I’d do it just so I could avoid using a pencil. I also have a preference for the sketchbooks and page sizes I use. There’s just something about the quality and size of the paper that makes me more comfortable. I’ve learned that I like using smaller sheets of paper (5”x8” usually) because sometimes, bigger spaces can be overwhelming to work with.
With digital work, Adobe Illustrator is my go-to. I usually like to draw things out a little bigger than the final products so I can really focus on detail without zooming in 500%. It’s much easier to scale work in vector programs like Illustrator than bitmap programs like Photoshop.
It took me a while to figure all of these things out, and there was a lot of trial and error. But by using new materials and trying new things I was able to find what works best for me.
