Welcome back to campus, hope y’all had a nice winter break. Now that we’re back I bet you’re wondering what’s new on the Marywood art scene. What exciting new exhibits are there to see in the Insalaco Center for Studio Arts? I spoke with one of the gallery student workers the first week and confirmed what I’d suspected. The galleries are not open.
Construction has been going on in both Insalaco and the Shield’s Center to make way for new galleries and classroom spaces, however none of these are open as of yet. We can look forward to their opening sometime this year, but I have not received anything concrete as of yet, so hopefully it will be in the upcoming weeks.
If you so please, the remains of various shows can be seen but are closing soon; the Kresge Gallery for example still has a few works up from the 10 Years of Excellence show, and you can see bits of the Suraci Permanent Collection / Small Works show through the glass in the Mahady. Similarly you can still see the airplane-related art of Steve Polieskie in the Maslow through Jan 16, if you don’t mind peering through the doors or scheduling an appointment with the curator to go in.
If looking in on the art galleries “Peeping Tom” style isn’t your fancy, you can always make your own art or ask a local art student to show you what their current project is. And if that’s not your cup of tea, why not tune in to our Off Campus Art News to see what opportunities lie beyond the bounds of campus.
Stay tuned for additional news about upcoming Marywood Art Department gallery exhibitions.
