Framing

Only two weeks left until my exhibition on November 6th! I began buying frames last week, definitely should have started doing that two weeks ago, but it’s been going as smoothly as possible so far.

The biggest “challenge” with framing everything is finding the correct sizes. I have some weird sizes that needed to be framed, 18 x 40” and 31 x 33”. Thankfully I already found a frame for the 18 x 40”, I really assumed that size would be the hardest to get. But no, the hardest frames to find are always the 22 x 30” sizes. I have been primarily making art with 22 x 30 or 30 x 22” paper, and there just is not a frame that size. At least I can’t find any frames that are the exact size. But you know what size they do sell at Michaels that is close to that? 22.275 x 34.275.” Or if I’m really lucky they will only sell 24 x 36.”

Thankfully I need six 22 x 30” (or close to that), so yay, time to go find six uniform frames.

Beyond those six super annoying sizes I need to frame, I have three total pieces framed as of writing this. The 18 x 40” and two 18 x 24.” But I’ll be going out to get the other frames today with a friend who can help me carry everything. I saw a good sized frame for my 31 x 33” piece, I might have to get a bit creative with it because of the super weird, almost square size, but I’ll make it work. Then I just need the six 22 x 30”s, one 12 x 9”, one 11 x 7”, and two pieces are only getting matted at 18 x 22” because they have a slight 3D feature.

I’ll also be getting the hardware I need to hang these pieces today. Some of the pieces are light enough that I’m not going to wire them (the 12 x 9” and 11 x 7”) but the others are too heavy to just hang off the wall. I’ll just be using D-Rings and 20-30lb wire to stay on the safe side.

I am super excited to be wrapping up everything for this exhibit! This has been such a long process and while it was mostly fun, I am looking forward to never scouring every art/framing store within a 50-mile radius for 22 x 30” frames again.
