Hi everyone! It’s going to be a bit of a short entry this week because I’m writing over the much-needed Thanksgiving break! I only have a couple of updates since I last wrote to you all, including another gallery where I displayed my work and updates on my ceramics projects!
First, I want to talk about the Small Works Holiday Sale that opened on November 20, 2025 in the Mahady Gallery in the lobby of the Insalaco Center for Studio Arts. As of writing this post, I attended the opening last night, and the turnout was fantastic! I wasn’t expecting the number of people, but I was happy to see everyone’s work getting the recognition it deserved! I submitted some of the bracelets I made in my jewelry class, along with some of the ceramics pieces I showed in my last post. The gallery will be open until January 12, 2026, and I highly recommend seeing all of the amazing contributions!
Next, I want to update you all on the status of the replica of my grandparents’ house. I’ve been thinking about the way I want to glaze it for a while, and I’ve worked myself up so much that I’ve been avoiding it at all costs. But I finally decided to start it because I really needed to before it got too late in the semester. There were a couple of ways I could go about it, but I decided to glaze it all white and then use underglaze over top to hopefully get the most vivid colors. I think what allowed me to jump into it all of a sudden was the realization that if it turns out horrible in the kiln, I can always paint it with acrylic paint afterwards, since it doesn’t need to be food-safe. So, luckily, I got over the nerves and have been working on that. I’ll show you some pictures below. It’s so hard to work with underglaze on such a small, detailed piece, so I’m fully prepared for it to look wonky. But, I’m trying my best and hoping that all works out! I’ve only got to the windows and doors because I like to start with the hard stuff, but it should be smooth sailing from here.
Well, that’s all I have for this week! I’ll be working on some watercolor projects over the holiday, so maybe I’ll be able to show those to you in my next post! Thanks for reading! Stay creative 🙂
