Effort! 

So classes at Marywood are just starting and it’s pretty exciting to start another semester! Unfortunately I cannot take a ceramics course this semester, and it breaks my heart. But I will be taking a painting course, so I am sure I will be talking about how much I struggle with the 2-dimensional arts, haha!

Well I was going through some pictures on my laptop from my freshman year, and saw my work from my 2-dimensional design class. That piece that I made, that was my favorite, I put a lot of work into, and I have no idea what I was thinking because it was insane. So I got many sheets of black paper and I cut it into 1in x 1in squares. I proceeded to cut each square into 4 more little squares, and then cut those on a diagonal to make triangles. I am not talking like only 10 of these, I did A LOT of these triangles.

These two pictures above are from when I was still working on it. After laying these pieces out for many day I confused myself so much because in order to figure out that pattern I wanted I had to try out a lot of different positions. And then I had to trim the pieces with an X-acto knife to make them fit around the circles. I would have had a much easier time just painting or drawing this, but where’s the fun in that when I can cut them? I still have this piece and it is still one of my favorites because of how much work I put into it. I think I drove my roommates insane that year because I took over most of our floor space in order to create this. If I remember correctly this piece was a 16in X 20in.
