This semester, I am taking ART-316 Advanced Black and White Photography with Peter Nardone. Our first assignment was to photograph what we feel from winter. I tried to think outside the box for this assignment and tried to be a little more abstract with it. Being so used to photographing in color, trying to think only in black and white was a little challenging. I like the challenge so I tried photographing recognizable objects in a different way.
I wanted to try and capture the cold, dull feeling I get from winter. I tried to capture things that we don’t normally think of when we think of winter, like the rotting strawberry covered in some snow.
I also wanted to experiment with elements of art and photograph, like line and texture. It was fun to just capture what I felt and to try to think outside the box.
Overall, I had a fun time playing around more with black-and-white photography, and I can’t wait to take photos with film this semester. I feel like taking photos in black-and-white helps me see the photo more and see the contrast more clearly.
