Applying What I’ve Learned

Hi everyone! I hope you’ve all been enjoying your summer! In my last post, I mentioned my Etsy shop, which is coming along slowly. I’ve set up my shop, but other than that, I haven’t done much, which is why I’m not going to go into too much detail yet. Besides Etsy, I’ve been waiting to hear back from jobs and crafting when I can. I’m waiting to hear back from one place in particular, but since I’ll hopefully be working two jobs this summer, I’ve just been focusing on the job that I know I’ve secured. The job I currently have is actually at a store where I’ve worked for the past two summers in retail. However, this summer, I’ll be assisting with packaging design, website design, website management, and other behind-the-scenes tasks. I’m excited to apply the skills I’ve learned in my art classes to real world work situations. Most of what I’ll be doing is online, which, admittedly, isn’t my strong suit, but I’m excited to see what I can learn with real experience. I’ve only completed a couple of tasks so far, but there’s still a lot more work to be done. I’ll definitely update you all once I’ve started the larger scale projects.

Other than work, I’ve been thinking up some ideas for the studio when we get back in the fall. I’m excited to try out some new forms. Specifically, I want to make lidded jars, and I also want to play with texture, even in the simplest of forms. I’m particularly interested in the leather-hard phase, where I can manipulate the clay’s surface more meticulously without the same risks as manipulating clay while it’s still on the wheel or wet. I’ll document the experimentations so I can share them here next semester.

Well, that’s pretty much all that I’ve been up to recently. I know it was short, but I hope you enjoyed this week’s post. I’m wishing you a peaceful week, and I’ll talk to you all soon!
