Welcome back to the art studio! The first week of the fall semester has come to an end and we’re all back in the studio working hard and creating awesome things. I know I am excited to be back and creating! I can tell this semester is going to be a fun one full of amazing work by some amazing students!
In the sculpture studio we already have some fun projects planned and a possible exhibition in the near future. We are working towards the goal of having four pieces completed by November in order to have a gallery at some time later in November, I will definitely talk more about later (if you are an art student in the ART 101 Foundations course this is one of many gallery opportunities to visit).
Our first project is going to be an at-least-2-feet-tall torso, either male or female. We are making the torso out of clay and we will then make a mold of it. Once the mold is made we will pour plaster into it to make the torsos. Once that is complete we may paint them and then possibly make stands/bases for them. It will take us a bit of time to fully make the torsos out of clay but so far looking at all of our progress they are coming along quite wonderfully. Everyone’s torsos are going to be quite different. Some are doing more elongated figures while others are trying to keep the proportions more natural. Some may included arms and the head while others may not. Some will have a bit more curves than others. They will show the diverseness of the human form.
It looks like its going to be an exciting semester and I can’t wait to see all the excellent things everyone will make!
