I am majoring in Art because it is something I’m passionate about. I have been passionate about art my whole life and it is something that I want to do for the rest of my life. I’ve always known my whole life that I wanted to pursue a career in art.

The kinds of things that inspire me are…making people happy from my work. I want my work to bring joy to people and to inspire them as well.

My art favorite class so far was Color Photography with Professor Sue Jenkins. I enjoyed this class because I learned how color can be an important factor of art, like learning color theory. This class helped push us to think outside the box and to learn new methods and techniques. We experimented with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom to bring out more color and to emphasize different emotions. For our one assignment, we edited the same photo in five different ways to convey a different mood in each. One edit would be bright and colorful while another would be dull and gloomy.

When I am not in class, I’m taking photos or sometimes drawing in my sketchbook. If I’m not doing those things, I’m usually working on school projects or hanging out with my friends on campus!

The coolest thing I have done at Marywood so far was taking photos of The Bachelor for our school’s newspaper, The Wood Word, when he came to campus for a mental health event. He then tagged my photography account when he posted the photos that I took. I was not expecting him to credit my photos afterwards so it was a surprise for me.

When I graduate I hope to become a concert photographer. I’m a big fan of music and would love to combine both music and art in my work. I’m a fan of many musical artists and would love to one day take their photos at one of their concerts.

I would recommend the Art program at Marywood because it is a very loving community. I have made great friends through this program and met really great professors. I have learned so much from this program and I’m excited to gain more knowledge from it.

What excites me most about Art is the way people can express themselves. Each person has their own unique style and that style represents their personality. People can have such unique ways of telling a story through their art and that’s what I love about art.
