Blogger Role: Painting

Major: Illustration

Minor: Painting

I chose Marywood because my high school art teacher was a student here. Through his endless support, he encouraged me to pursue my dreams of getting a higher education in the art field. I remember one specific conversation we had when he had told me he knew I would love it here, and he was right!

I am majoring in Art because it’s my first love. This is a passion I’ve had since I was very young, and art has gotten me through very difficult moments throughout my life. I cannot see myself pursuing anything other than art.

When I’m not in class, I spend time with my cats, travel, paint, and practice other crafts that I’m not as familiar with such as sewing and sculpting.

So far, my favorite art class at Marywood was painting with Collier Parker. I’ve discovered a lot about my personal style through his courses, and eventually realized I wanted to add a painting minor.

The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was learning how to create digital art. When I enrolled here, I had very minimal understanding of digital art software, and now it’s one of my favorite mediums!

When I graduate I want to travel, move somewhere with more opportunities in the art field, and hopefully land a job as a concept designer or food illustrator!

I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because the art field is still alive and thriving. Many negative influences might persuade someone away from the arts, but it is important to follow your personal calling rather than the callings of others.
