I chose Marywood because I fell in love with the welcoming atmosphere and sense of community I felt whenever I visited campus. Marywood’s art department was also so strong and diverse that I knew I would learn so many new things. During my academic career here, I have met some of my bestest friends and forged strong connections for the future.

I am majoring in Art because it has always been a passion of mine since I was little. When I was younger, I would doodle on any piece of paper I could find until my mom enrolled me in art classes. I have been taking those art classes since I was about 9 years old, and I still go to this day! Coming into college, I knew that I wanted to pursue an artistic career, and I chose Graphic Design for its versatile nature. I love the idea of my design work inspiring and connecting with others, so I knew that design would be perfect for me.

When I’m not in class, you can find me doing all sorts of hobbies, like reading, painting, drawing, and dancing. I am an Irish step dancer with the Emerald Isle Step Dancers in Pittston, PA, so I attend my dance classes on the weekends. Otherwise, I am spending time with my friends and family.

So far, my favorite art class at Marywood was Motion Graphics with Paul Georgetti. I really enjoyed this class because it challenged me to think differently and utilize new software programs that I have never used before. At first, it was a struggle to understand the material and techniques, but by the end of the semester, I noticed significant growth in my work for that class. I think I am most proud of the projects I made in Motion Graphics because they pushed me out of my comfort zone and challenged my design skills.

The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was experiment with different mediums in my classes. During my freshman year, I had a 3-Dimensional Design class, which was interesting to me because I had never really worked with sculptures or 3-D, but it challenged me to try new things. I made a wire sculpture, an assemblage trophy, and I even got to experiment with the woodworking tools. Another cool project I did at Marywood was a Movie Title Sequence for Motion Graphics, which was probably my favorite thing I ever designed.

When I graduate, I hope to design posters or graphics for print or social media. I gained some experience, in the summer of 2025, with social media designing and formatting in my internship with the Scranton Fringe Festival. I really enjoyed that work, and I think it would be a great career for me.

I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because the entire program is so welcoming, and the professors are absolutely amazing. They are willing to take the time to help you with anything you need and really help improve your skills as artists and people. There are so many classes and experiences in the art department, and I’ll remember them forever.
