I chose Marywood because it felt like home every time I visited before committing, and it was somewhere I could actually see myself. The Art department especially made me feel so welcome and I knew that I would have so many opportunities here.
I am majoring in Art because it has always been one of my passions since I was a little girl, and I did not see myself majoring in anything else. I chose graphic design because I want to be able to use art and visual communication to make an impact in the world, and I have lots of fun doing it at the same time.
When I’m not in class, you can find me doing all kinds of crafts and scrapbooking, and I love watercoloring especially. I also enjoy working out, reading, spending lots of time outside and with my friends and family as well.
So far, my favorite art class at Marywood was Introduction to Typography with Prof. Chris Medley. This class was really exciting for me, and I realized that working with typography in graphic design is what I want to do in my future. The projects in this class were so fun and we even got to work in the printmaking room a bit, which I really enjoyed because I love the whole concept of printmaking.
The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was just about anything in the printmaking room, especially using the letter press to create posters inspired by H.N. Werkman. Experimenting with screen printing this semester as well has been extremely fun and I’m excited to blog about the class this semester.
When I graduate I hope to create either graphics or logos for small businesses and start to dip into the different areas of graphic design, because I’m not exactly sure which direction I want to head yet.
I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because it is extremely inclusive and the whole program and professors are amazing. They are here for anything and everything you need, and help us to become better artists and the best versions of ourselves everyday. There are so many different opportunities and classes to take, and it’s so fun to see what kind of projects each semester will bring.
