Emma Brooks (MA, Class of 2026)
Blogger Role: Sculpture
Major: Art Therapy
Clubs: Rugby
I chose Marywood because they are one of the top ten schools for Art Therapy in the nation, the campus is small and easy to navigate. When accepted I was immediately welcomed with open arms and was given the space and opportunities to express myself.
I am majoring in Art because it has allowed me to express myself in ways that I never thought possible, it has also allowed me to connect to people who might not have the words to express themselves and I find it to be so powerful.
When I’m not in class you can find me volunteering with Mission Scranton, working at Lakeland Orchards and CVS or hanging out with friends.
So far, my favorite art class at Marywood was Mixed Media. It allowed me to find materials that I do not typically use and create some of my best pieces of work. Although this is my favorite class I also have really enjoyed challenging myself and taking studio classes in many different art forms such as Typography and Digital Design.
The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was my senior show as an undergraduate Art Therapy student held in the Suraci Gallery at Marywood University in the fall of 2024. It was a collection of my best pieces throughout my time at Marywood and was a show that I was very proud of.
When I graduate my goal is to become a licensed art therapist who works with either the geriatric or special education population.
I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because because it is a very close knit community, every professor has your best interest in mind and wants you to succeed and develop your own style of art however that may be.
