I chose Marywood because of how beautiful the campus was. I discovered the school as a result of searching for art therapy programs that not only allow you to learn about the practice but create art as well. In addition, it was also really important to me for the class sizes to be fairly small so that I would have access to an environment in which I could form close relationships with my professors. Marywood has definitely created an environment that nurtures that.
I am majoring in Art because I felt the impact that art has had on my life and I wanted to see if I could use art as a means of helping others. Originally, I had never heard of art therapy, but after doing some research I discovered it and I couldn’t be happier that I did.
When I’m not in class I’m either taking care of my plants (I’m a plant lady), listening to music, or cooking (I love to cook and learn new recipes).
So far, my favorite art class at Marywood is actually one that I’m currently enrolled in. Its a mixed-media class that focuses on art as a form of activism and I’m IN LOVE with it. I’ve learned about so many interesting activists and artists and everyone has a really unique perspective to bring to the table.
The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was getting the opportunity to study abroad. Studying in Italy was an incredibly eye opening experience for me.
When I graduate I plan on attending graduate school to get my Masters in art therapy.
I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because the art program at Marywood offers a range of incredible professors who are both passionate and dedicated to their work. For me, having a relationship with my professors was the most important thing for an art class and its incredibly easy to do here at Marywood.
