Hey, everyone! I’m back with another packaging design project for my packaging design class. I was hoping to have them printed out and assembled for my post this week, but they weren’t quite finished yet. Instead, I’ll just attach a few of the designs that I worked on.
For this project, we had to choose any kind of candy we wished and design a package for it while also keeping the psychology of branding in mind. We also had to design packaging for three different flavors or quantities of our chosen candy. I wanted to base my packaging on the Lindt chocolate bars you buy at the store, with the box packaging around a foil-wrapped chocolate bar. I grabbed one at the store to create my guidelines for my designs.

My idea for this project was to create novelty chocolate bars based on popular and iconic places in Scranton, PA. I thought this would be marketed towards locals, as well as tourists, who are in the area. I wanted to create colorful and engaging packaging that anyone would want to pick up and buy. Included on the packaging are some fun facts and information about each location to tie in with the Scranton connection. I took the Electric City Sign, the Penn Paper building, and Cooper’s Seafood House for my locations, and chose the flavors orange, dark, and sea salt chocolate. I wanted to tie the places and colors in with the flavors, so I thought these flavors matched perfectly.

This week, I plan to print my packaging and assemble my products for our class critique. I also want to get more of the chocolate bars at the store actually to put in the chocolate bar boxes. I am very excited to see how these turn out, and I am kind of contemplating making more flavors with different locations. I really enjoyed this project, and I am eager to design more complex packaging ideas!
Thank you all for reading!
