Designing a Movie Poster

Once again I have another project where we create something for a movie we watched! I love these sorts of projects! For this one in my General Illustration class, we got a list of movies to pick out and I chose The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, which is a silent film from 1920! Not only did I have fun illustrating these, but I also got to check out a cool movie in the process!

For this project, we had to make a 11 x 17 poster, and a Netflix banner. I chose to stick with a black and white color palette, and that was a fun challenge for me, because I usually stick with colors!

My goal with both banner and poster was to really work on my contrast skills, particularly on the poster where I wanted the focus to be on the doctor while having him hide out essentially because he’s cast in shadow.

I really had so much fun with this project it was super fun figuring out what compositions I wanted to use, and also working on my greyscale skills which is super helpful as value practice!

Have a wonderful week!
