Emotion: A Unique Way To Show It

Orange you glad to be here?

Today I wanted to share and talk about one of my favorite series: Oshi No Ko. It starts off following Gorou, a doctor in a quiet town. His favorite idol, Hoshino Ai, had come to the quiet town to deliver her twins outside of the public’s eye. Gorou helps her through her pregnancy and vows to help her have a successive birth. This quickly falls short as, on the day Hoshino Ai is set to give birth, Gorou is murdered by someone who was stalking Hoshino Ai.

He later wakes up when he is reincarnated as one of the twins Hoshino Ai gave birth to, Hoshino Aquamarine. Aqua’s twin sister, Hoshino Ruby, is also someone who had been reincarnated and she also happens to be one of the patients Aqua (Gorou) had looked after before he died.

I’m a sucker for psychological media and I quickly fell in love with this show. This show explores the dark sides of idols and entertainers in Japan and touches on mental health, stalkers, the amount of effort that is put into achieving even a small amount of success and so much more!

One my favorite things in this show is how emotions are shown through both Aqua and Ruby. When they are doing an action in goof faith or lying to help someone, the star in the eye shines white, which is something that is often related with purity and positivity. When they are manipulating someone or plotting something bad, the star in their eye turns black, something that is often related to sinister emotions and negativity.

Eyes play such a unique part in Oshi No Ko and I love it. One of the twins could be seemingly plotting something nice, but a black star in their eye will tell you otherwise. It’s small details like these that really show you how much the creator thought out their work and how much they enjoyed do so.

Are there any devices you enjoy seeing or using that is used to show a characters emotions?

Be sure to look out for my next post!
