Jungian 12 Archetypes!

Hi friends! I hope everyone is doing great and enjoying this fall weather we are finally having.

This week, in my History & Theory of Art Therapy class, we studied analytical and archetypal psychology. We then completed an art therapy directive where we created a piece based on the 12 Jungian archetypes.

We began by choosing one of the 12 archetypes to depict. I chose the explorer, which represents freedom. I began by getting a piece of Bristol paper and folding it in half. We were instructed to draw a depiction of our archetype on one side, and on the other side a representation of our openness and willingness to accept it into our lives. On the left side, I used acrylic paint markers to create a dreamscape of the ocean, mountains, and a sunset. Next, I traced both of my hands onto the right side of the paper and colored them my two favorite colors, orange and blue, representing me reaching for the dreamscape. My hands outstretched towards my dreamscape is meant to show how desperately I want to achieve this dream of mine.

Personally, I often daydream about leaving home and starting over somewhere else, somewhere beautiful and unique. I chose the explorer because exploring the world and starting a new life is always in the back of my mind. I’ve managed to get to two new continents in my life and I am so eager to get to more places!

That’s all for today, friends! I hope you enjoyed reading!
