In my last blog post, I had written about my traditional Macbeth poster for my Communication and Conceptual Design class, and this time I wanted to write about my digital version for the assignment. I had a ton of fun with this assignment as it was fun to explore what I was able to do digitally as well as traditionally, but in the end I do feel that I still prefer to work digitally because it’s where I am most comfortable. I would love to explore traditional art more leisurely when I have the time because it is just so time consuming when you have a deadline.

For this digital poster’s concept, I decided to challenge myself and try to make a drop of blood dripping down a dagger resemble Macbeth’s crown. I was inspired by looking at a picture of splashing water and thought it would be such a cool concept. This was a challenge for me just because these types of organic shapes can be a little difficult to make in Illustrator, and although it took forever I am so happy with the result. My biggest concern was the blood actually resembling a crown so that anyone can see it instantly, so I tried to make it as liquid-like as possible while keeping the basic crown shape. I am happy to report that everyone was able to recognize it as a crown instantly during the critique, which was amazing to know. I absolutely love texture and think it really took this poster to the next level, but I ran into a huge problem with my Photoshop because it wouldn’t let me save the file, which I am almost positive was due to the huge file of the texture that I overlayed over my already huge poster file.
I would love to know what you think of this poster and if you prefer the digital over the traditional version!! Leave your comments below.
