My Biggest Illustration Project Yet!

Hello, It is hard to believe the Fall 2024 semester is coming to a close. That said, as an Illustration major at Marywood University, I am pleasantly bombarded with art final projects. Among some the final projects, we just concluded with our last major project in my General Illustration class. Moreover, this was the largest illustration project I have completed thus far!

Amusement Park Concept Project:

For this project our object was to design a concept for an original amusement park. To illustrate our concept, we needed to complete a map, billboard, ticket, and 3D model of one of the featured attractions. The class was assigned a couple weeks to conceptualize, design, and illustrate our projects. Personally, I spent various nights and hours working diligently on my project as I wanted it to fully exemplify my skills, creativity, and of course… my passion for Halloween.

My Amusement Park: HALLOW GROUND

It would be out of character if I chose a theme besides Halloween. For my park, I went with a classical Halloween theme: featuring various Halloween icons and traditions.

The Map:

  • The layout of the map was designed to replicate a pumpkin.
  • Utilized a fall oriented color palette for the park.
  • Besides the horror attractions, there are spots for both apple and pumpkin picking.
  • As added easter eggs, the lights around the park are designed as spiders and the umbrellas at the eating tables are bats.
  • Featured food at the park includes: Pizza, candy apples, cider doughnuts, and apple cider.

The Billboard:

  • Kept the same “HALLOW GROUND bone logo”
  • For a billboard attention grabber I chose the phrase “A Day To Die For”
  • The dead skeleton consuming the candy apple complements the attention grabber.
  • Maintained a spooky color palette with contrasting complementary colors.

The Ticket:

  • To maintain the common rectangle design for a ticket while still being creative, I went with a coffin design.
  • For design consistency, I kept the same logo for “HALLOW GROUND”.
  • Gothic color scheme and design to fit with the coffin.
  • instead of “Admit 1” (as seen on most park tickets) I took the creative approach with “1 Body”

The 3D Ride Model:

  • The ride I chose was “The Ghost Swing Go-round”. This ride is a spooky “spin” on the average spinning swing ride at amusement parks.
  • Materials include: Styrofoam, cloth, felt, yarn, acrylic paint, model pumpkins, and a lot of hot glue.
  • Honestly, designing a 3D model is something I do not do often; however, it was probably one of my favorite aspects of the project!

WRAP-UP:

Despite how time consuming and perhaps a little stressful it was to design a concept for an amusement park. Creating “HALLOW GROUND” had to be one of my favorite projects I was assigned at Marywood University thus far. IT was a thrilling experience to design a park around my passion for Halloween. Furthermore, being able to actually bring my idea to life with the 3D model had me ecstatic! Overall, with the near conclusion of the fall semester, this project has my excited for my future endeavors in the Marywood Art Department.
