It is hard to believe I am already about halfway through my fourth semester at Marywood University. Anyway, one of my classes this semester as part of my Illustration Major is Digital Illustration. With my time spent thus far in the Marywood University Art department, this has to be one of my favorite classes! Digital Illustration is my preferred creative medium, and this class allows me to learn new techniques, skills, and creative processes that I can use in my feature projects and endeavors.
One Semester Long Project:
Unlike the other art classes I have taken that focus on a variety of different projects, Digital Illustration focuses on one major idea and incorporates all the projects into it. That big idea is designing our concept for a story! For our story, we need an original concept, with original characters, plot, environment, etc. Throughout the duration of the semester, the assignments that incorporate this semester-long project include: character design, environment design, cover art design, and an animation.
My Story Concept:
In a nutshell, my story is told through a single-play horror video game. The main protagonists are Bruce and his partner Buster. A supernatural being known as the DEER DEMON took over their small town of Chestnut. With the DEER DEMON’s herd of Dead Doe, he devours the souls of humans and leaves their decapitated corpses. That said, it is up to Bruce and Buster to not only save their town of Chestnut, but also prevent the demonic spread of the DEER DEMON’S power and avenge the death of Bruce’s mother.
Character Design:
As of the time of writing this post, I completed my character designs and facial expressions for my four main characters.
WRAP UP:
As I continue through the second half of the spring semester, I am excited to continue with my semester-long Digital Illustration Project, and bring my story to life!
