Qinniart

This past Sunday, February 8, 2026 marks the sixth year since the passing of Qing Han.

Known as Qinniart online, Qing was an amazing artist who was well known for her wonderful watercolor and gouache paintings.

Many of her pieces included tears, flowers, fish, galaxies and stars, and a sense of eloquence and beauty. Her pieces were emotive and delicate.

Her pieces were oftentimes related to her chronic pain and suffering. Qing had endured four open heart surgeries due to a severe genetic heart condition. If that weren’t enough, on December 30, 2019, Qing revealed that she had been diagnosed with stage 4 fibrosis sarcoma cancer. She would pass away less than two months later at the age of 29.

Qinniart first began posting online in 2008 on a site named DeviantArt. Over the years she accumulated thousands upon thousands of followers. In 2012, Qing graduated from Sheridan College with a degree in animation.

I first came upon Qinniart in around 2016. Not too long before this, I had determined art to be my career when I grew up. Just as many others at the time, I stumbled upon a drawing of a girl who was seemingly made out of the stars. Her face and hair was like a galaxy and the freckles across her face were constellations.

It caught my eye so much. I thought it was beautiful. As I watched her draw it, I wished to be as good as her one day. I couldn’t comprehend this image coming from the hands of someone else. As I got older I still looked back on that image and thought about the way it made me feel. I thought about the artistry behind it. I found it so beautiful.

It warms my heart to scroll through Qinniart’s profile. Despite her pain and agony, she created such beautiful pieces. She was such a strong person. She persisted despite everything. Seeing people praise her, say that they miss her, and share their appreciation for her and her art is lovely. She is dearly missed.
