Rediscovery

Hello there and welcome back! I’m excited to write this post because its a little different than my last few. As I mentioned in another post of mine, I started my Art Education observations this semester and I am observing an amazing teacher! I truly have had just an incredible experience so far and I am learning so much! I think I also mentioned that the teacher I am observing teaches an AP art history course, which I love of course, and I have been rediscovering so many art pieces through observing this class. So today I wanted to talk a little bit about that!

When I started observing this class I was so excited because I was rediscovering everything I first learned about when I added my art history minor. However, I also realized just how much I have forgotten! Last week I participated in a bellringer activity the class was doing because I had remembered learning about the painting it was on. When I was trying to write things down about it I was able to write a good amount of information but I knew I was definitely forgetting a lot of things. This activity made me realize how easy it is to forget things when I’m not reviewing them enough. So I decided I am now going to review my old notebooks when I can to keep refreshing my knowledge!

I think doing this will really help me not only with these blog posts but also with my major! Art history is a great tool in lesson planning. It provides background knowledge for the lesson, it gives inspiration for project ideas, and also creates something students can tie what they are making back to. I hope to do better with keeping up on art history topics in the future now.

I hope you enjoyed this post and maybe it inspired you to rediscover something you haven’t looked at in a while!

Thanks!

-Marissa
