So Many Bowls

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all doing well. It’s been a bit hectic for me since coming back from spring break. Unfortunately, I got sick the day before classes started back up, so I fell a bit behind, but I still want to show you all what I’ve been up to.

For the most part, I’ve been planning and working on a commission that I received! I’m making 20 bowls in various sizes for an ice cream and candy store where I used to work in the summer. I’m super excited because I’ve never had to make so many similar pieces, and it’s a great challenge. Half the bowls will be mid-sized, fluted-edge bowls, and the other half will be much smaller, standard bowls. I’ve already made the ten larger bowls, and I think they’re adorable. They’re not as cohesive in size as I’d like, but I still have to trim their feet, so I’m hoping that will help a bit. They don’t have to be exact, but I’d like them to be, of course! Here’s a peek at what they’re looking like so far.

For the glaze, I’m going to dip the bowls in white, then add polka dots in various colors. They will fit the shop’s vibe so well. I think I’m going to mix the underglaze colors and test them before I commit to glazing all the bowls, because mixing the colors myself can be a bit hard without being able to see what they’ll look like after firing. Having a test tile will be a lot safer.

I made one of the smaller bowls to get approval, but I haven’t made the others yet. Here’s a peek at it. I still have to trim the foot, of course, but this is the shape. For the glaze, I’m going to dip the bowls in white again, but this time they’ll have stripes in different colors.

Otherwise, I’ve been working on some more lighthouses. However, I’ve been experimenting with ways to make them smaller and into a single piece. I love the style of my previous lighthouses, but I wanted some smaller pieces that didn’t take as much time to make. I think these smaller ones are also very versatile and could be great sellers. Here’s a peek at what they look like before I trim them. I’m definitely going to make more of these.

I’m super excited for all of the things I have going on! I’m going to have to stop producing and start glazing very soon, because I have a lot to do and not much time to get it done! I’ll plan out all my glazing ideas before I start, since that worked really well for me last time, so I’m hoping it will again.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for now. I know it was a bit short, but I hope you enjoyed it regardless. I can’t wait to update you all soon! Thanks for reading and stay creative 🙂
