I am majoring in Art because…

I chose to major in art because it allows me to combine creativity with my interest in sports media. Through graphic design and photography, I enjoy capturing the energy and emotion of sports and turning those moments into visual stories. Studying art helps me improve my technical skills while also pushing me to be more creative and develop my own style as I work toward a career in sports media.

The kinds of things that inspire me are…

What inspires me the most is the energy and emotion found in sports, as someone that grew up participating in many, including dancing, swimming, basketball, cross-country and track and field. The intensity of a game, the focus of the athletes, and the excitement of the fans create moments that are powerful to capture. Through photography and graphic design, I am inspired to turn those moments into visual stories that show the passion and movement behind sports. I aim to contribute to the growth and visibility of sport organizations by creating meaningful and engaging content.

My favorite art class so far was…

As of right now, my favorite class has been motion graphics, as it shows how design can go beyond still images. Scrolling online and seeing other people’s work always amazed me for the dedication and time they put into their work, and motion graphics has always been a skill I have been willing to learn. In class, I like being able to animate my work and create visuals that feel more alive and engaging  than a still image. Learning motion graphics has helped me think differently about design, and it is a skill that I am excited to use more in my sports media and digital content pieces.

When I am not in class…

Usually, when I am not in class, I am either traveling, going to concerts or hockey games, or working at my part-time job at Starbucks. When I am not running around, I like to read and scroll through social media for trends I can apply to my artwork and explore new learning possibilities.

The coolest thing I have done at Marywood so far was…

The coolest thing I have done so far at Marywood is connect with Shannon Corr, a graphic design alum student here at Marywood University! Sue Jenkins, one of the graphic design professors, connected us, as Shannon currently works for the Philadelphia Flyers. Shannon let me know about a mentoring opportunity they offer for women interested in entering the sports field. I applied for the opportunity and was accepted, and I had a full day of mentoring with Shannon Corr on March 5th, 2026. I gained a lot of hands–on experience and received tips on how to make the most of my year and a half here at Marywood before I graduate and start applying for jobs.

My dream would be to work in hockey, but I am passionate about sports in general and would be excited to work in any part of the sports world.

When I graduate…

After I graduate, I hope to work in sports media, creating graphics and visual content for teams or organizations. My dream would be to work in hockey, but I am passionate about sports in general and would be excited to work in any part of the sports world. I want to use my skills that I developed over the years to capture the energy of sports and create connections that connect with the fans and teams.

I would recommend the Art program at Marywood because…

I would recommend the art program at Marywood University because it gives students the chance to explore their creativity while building real skills for the future. The classes encourage you to experiment with different types of media and there are great resources for each major. I also appreciate how each program encourages students to develop their own style while building the skills needed for careers. At Marywood as well it is a supportive environment where you can grow as an artist and be surrounded by so many helpful people and resources.

What excites me most about Art is…

What excites me the most about art is the chance to bring ideas to life and share them with others, especially in sports media. I love using graphic design and photography to capture the energy and many emotions in sports. Art lets me experiment, think creatively, and tell stories visually in a way that connects with the fans, teams, organizations all together to bring these sports moments to life.

My favorite process to create art would be…

My favorite process to create art is using graphic design to bring ideas to life. The lengthy part of sketching and planning always gets to me before the physical, though it is worth it in the end. Being able to experiment with composition, color and layering to create visuals that are dynamic and engaging. This process allows me to explore different styles, solve creative challenges, and develop work that reflects my personal vision.

What would you say to young artists who are just starting?

I would say to young artists to not be afraid to experiment and take chances. It is okay to make mistakes or even change your mind a lot during the journey. It is normal to feel lost or confused at times during the process, but that is the part of discovering your style and figuring out what inspires you. I did not decide what road I wanted to go down with my major till my Sophomore spring semester, I promise it is okay. Keep creative, stay curious and trust that each piece you make, even the ones that do not work out, is helping you grow as an artist.

What would be your dream project?

My dream “project” is really about landing a role in sports media and working with a professional team to create visuals that capture moments in sports, whether it is during a game or outside of it. I see it as an ongoing creative challenge, pushing myself to make this my dream, as it strengthens my techniques and abilities everyday without settling down into one single project. Having this role would help me tell achievements, connect with the community, and bring the energy to life. Combining my passion for art and sports in a way that feels meaningful everyday to see it as a dream to when I can actually say ‘I made it.’

There you have it, everyone! The extraordinary Madison Evans! I, for one, am incredibly impressed by the broad range of her skills! The fruit on her tea brochures looks so juicy, so edible, so delectable! I don’t even like pineapple, but I want to bite into that illustration she put on her brochure! I am also blown away by her photography; she truly captured the model and has an intriguing use of light. Her ligature designs are also fantastic; I love the way the whole set of images (the business cards, mug, and t-shirt) are tied together so well by a cohesive theme and a well-designed ligature! The inclusion of a QR code on her business card is also so genius! Not only do her designs look beautiful, they are efficient and effective!

I hope that this introduction to the one and only Madison Evans had been as enjoyable for you as it has been for me! Stay tuned for the next student spotlight!

Peace out!
