Happy fall season! I hope everyone was able to take the past few days to relax from your busy schedules and reset for the upcoming weeks. This week’s artist I discovered during a headshot event and saw her drawing some of the photographers. When I approached her I immediately was amazed with her style and vibrant colors. It reminded me of some shows I used to watch and brought such a nostalgic feeling for me. This person to draw up this feeling was none other than cartoon artist…
Nori Coaxum
Major: Illustration
Minor: N/A
Graduation Year: 2028
Clubs: CMYK Club
I am majoring in Art because
I wanted to share my art with the people around me and be able to show kids who were like me growing up that even with a cartoony style you can still make it in the artist industry and have a major part in the art around you today.
The kinds of things that inspire me are
Chowder, Courage the Cowardly Dog, SpongeBob SquarePants, Osmosis Jones, and The Great Mouse Detective
My favorite art class so far was
actually both Basic Drawing with Prof Peter Nardone and Foundations Seminar with Prof Sue Jenkins. The reason why is mainly because I get to work on my skill, play to my strengths, and learn how to work with even my weaknesses! Especially in Basic Drawing where I’m able to work on realism which I struggle with and Foundations lets me relearn skills I haven’t used in a while!
When I am not in class
I’m either drawing in my room, playing games with my friends, or trying to do some homework and be responsible.
The coolest thing I have done at Marywood so far
was get to go to so many cool campus events and get to meet so many cool people who have the same interests as me! And to be able to join the E-Sports team at Marywood!
When I graduate
I plan on trying to become a storyboard artist and/or a character designer with the off chance of owning my own small business.
I would recommend the Art program at Marywood
because it has a lot of people who also like and want to do art as a profession and a lot of helpful professors who give you positive and proper critiques.
What excites me most about Art
is just being able to make my own stories and characters to build my own world and plus it’s a great coping skill that I have developed for my neurodivergent needs and mental health.
What type of music would you pair your work with?
To be honest, I can’t even describe my music taste! It ranges from heavy metal to old romantic love tunes to indie music to game music, it really just depends on what I want to draw and what story I want to portray.
->->-> Check out some more works by Nori! Amazing creations right?!
I love how Nori chose the colors and how she uses them to bring her characters to life on top of their postures and expressions. Who are your favorite movie/tv show characters? Auf Wiedersehen! ~Conchita
