I chose Marywood because of its location. I wanted the college I decided to go to be in an area that inspires me. The east coast has always fascinated me with how close everything was to each other and how quickly the environment can change from differing states. Marywood has a good location because it also has a good mixture of hometown and city feel.

I am majoring in Art because I like how expressive it can be and show a person’s interests. Art and math are universal languages that can be understood. Lastly, art has more ability to express emotion and it’s how we’ve learned how groups of people have lived in the past.

When I’m not in class I enjoy reading, drawing, hanging out with friends, listening to music or taking photos.

So far, my favorite art class at Marywood was my Color Photography class with Prof Sue Jenkins. I was able to understand color theory more and experiment more within my compositions.

The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was go into the Art Department’s black and white darkroom and develop film. It was a new area of photography I’ve always wanted to try. Learning the process and seeing the outcomes was a rewarding experience.

When I graduate I hope to continue to pursue photography and join a nature photography magazine in the future like National Geographic. I really enjoy traveling, nature, and photography so doing a profession like this would be my ultimate dream.

I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because of the knowledge the professors have to share with their students and the ability to fully pursue their art endeavors. The Art program encourages students to widen their abilities as an artist both within their discipline and outside.
