Hello and welcome back! Summer Treats has gotten some new additions! I hope you’re as excited as I am, because these are my favorite additions so far.
I didn’t want to do a fudge popsicle since I already did the orange creamsicle. I thought they were too similar, and I wanted to try and do different types of treats from ice cream trucks, so you’ll see what I wound up painting instead!
I was super excited about how these turned out. I think they both look pretty good for only using acrylic paint and challenging myself with realistic shadowing.
Here is the outline for what I was looking to paint.
With the first addition, I decided to add a Rocket Pop! This was very nostalgic for me to paint, as I used to love getting these from the ice cream truck as a kid. I thought this would be the perfect addition, and also a way to challenge my shadowing skills with acrylic paint.
Shadowing in general can be challenging, as one needs to use the shadow and light to make a 2D artwork seem 3D; to capture that with acrylic paint, capturing a popsicle is pretty challenging, at least for me anyway. I was quite surprised by the outcome, especially with the shading to make the indents throughout the popsicle.
Next, decided to paint the ice cream sandwich. This one was not my favorite to paint because it was super difficult to add the holes on the top without actually adding hard shadows because of the texture. Overall, I do like how this turned out in the end.
Next up, I think I might add two more treats to the bottom, and then I just have to think of what color I want to do for the background. I was thinking something like a very pastel yellow to not offset any of the colors too much, or maybe even an off-white. I still have some time to think about it, but you’ll just have to come back soon to see what I chose!
That’s all for now. Enjoy the beautiful weather, stay cool, and maybe enjoy some treats from the ice cream truck.
