Thank God

Hiya, I’m back again for a short one this week after the long, descriptive blog last time. I first just want to show the finished Alysa Liu animation I alluded to last blog entry.

It took a while, but I wanted each frame to be accurate and fun, and it garnered considerable likes on my Instagram, so that’s exciting!

Aside from that, the progress on the cat is stagnating as I’m working on creating the mould. By my next blog, there should be a few out of the mould. The craft fair is around the corner, so I’m hoping to get some business making custom painted iterations of the sculpture. I’m lower on 3D updates, but my ceramics stuff from last year that I’d been putting off is finally done and out of the kiln. I’ll show those pieces and then show my progress on the tape bird installation on the side of the stairwell, since that’s been gaining some traction from what I hear 🙂

So here’s the first of two pieces I finished from ceramics. I showed all my bead making LONG ago… but I finally assembled him. I thought a bead lizard with ceramic beads would be cool and have some nicer weight to it. It does have nice weight to it, but a lot of it didn’t go as well as I would’ve liked. I think I should have gotten a thicker coat of glaze on the beads. A lot of them are very patchy where they ended up matte and glossy all at once. I would have liked more gloss, but it’s still fun. The colors were supposed to be green, blue, and black. They all just kinda look like shades of gray. This is partially the kiln burning the colors and partially due to the lack of convincing glaze cover. Overall, though, it was a fun test, and I like my little friend.

The more fun finished piece is the temple that finally came out of the kiln. The poor thing just kept falling apart as it went through each step of the process. I used E6000 to piece together the parts that had to be fired separately, and it’s held perfectly, thank God. Now it’s being used for incense as intended 🙂

Lastly, the pigeon tape mural is underway considerably. I’ve gotten two more done in a much speedier time frame than the first three. The significant hurdle at this point is that the last two will require me to climb up a ladder. I suspect they’ll take me a bit longer. As soon as I’m done with that, I’ll likely start one more pigeon in a suggested spot, and go elsewhere. It’s been very fun so far though. I like making the walls in Insalaco less boring.

Just a short one today, but I’m excited to have cat progress here for next blog. More to come!
