World on My Shoulders

Ok my title is really dramatic, but I’m trying to finish many commissions for people before Christmas. This’ll be another episode where I talk about how I bit off way more than I can chew, and I’m choking on the consequences of my own actions. So, without further ado, here’s what I’ve been up to the past few weeks.

Here’s the first of many hats I made. I was commissioned to make 5 brain beanies and one Darth Vader hat. I made the base beanies first, and I’m now working on putting the brain wrinkles on. I made the hats in a mildly more time consuming way so that they could be ribbed. This way they should (hopefully) be more stretchy and more likely to fit, since the man who commissioned these hats for his family doesn’t know all of their head sizes. I do, however, think I made this one a bit small. I hope that they all end up being sufficient.

Here’s the progress on the Darth Vader hat the previously mentioned client wanted 🙂 It’s coming along well, but it needs the mask portion still. From what I’ve seen, that part of the hat is the hardest, so I’m hoping I’m just seeing it wrong.

My last major commission is this balloon situation. This will be a hot air balloon. I’m going to use Elmer’s glue to harden the shape and then pop the balloon that’s inside. I’m not sure if you can tell from the pictures, but I accidentally got a giant balloon… this undoubtedly slowed my progress. On the bright side, the client who commissioned this does not need it until January, so that does make my life a bit easier 🙂

That’s the sitch with my commissions at the moment. It’s been a very overwhelming past few weeks. I hope I get the stuff done though.

Anyway, I hope everyone’s Christmas is delightful! I’m super excited for the day to come. It’ll be a refreshing break 🙂

More to come!
