Hi Everyone! I am back this week with the finished products of my acid etching that I was experimenting with last week. Check out the previous printmaking blog post, Etching Experiments, to see how I started my process for this project!
Once again, it was a flower bouquet of my best friend Emma’s and my birth flowers, etched into a postage stamp with the numbers of the day we were born in the corners. For the assignment, we had to create 5 additions of the print, meaning that they are identical (or almost identical) and there are 5 of them. Since they are the same they are called editions, whereas if you were just doing a trial print it would be called a Trial Proof (TP) and if you were to have a version of it that you were satisfied with but didn’t make more and edition it, it would be called an Artist’s Proof (AP). After the prints are done it is a common practice to label them right underneath the print, with the name of the piece, whether its an edition, trial, or artist proof, and your signature or initials. Signing it right under the print and not at the bottom of the page allows for it to still be shown if you were to frame this in a mat board.
Anyway, here are my 5 editions of my final prints below! It took quite a few tries to get it how I wanted it, to wipe off the right amount of ink, and to use a Q-tip to whiten out the petals and leaves on the flowers.

Overall I am very satisfied with how these finally turned out, even if the editions do not look exactly identical to each other. I think I prefer numbers 1-3 the best, I really wanted it to give off a vintage sort of vibe and I think those ones do that the best! Can’t wait to frame one of them and put it in Emma’s and my room!
Thanks for reading!
