Art Therapy Faculty Awarded Following National Presentation

Abigail Oxford ATR-BC, LPC has been awarded the 2025 Ron E. Hays presenter award by the Pennsylvania Art Therapy Association for her sold-out presentation and workshop at the 2025 American Art Therapy Association National Conference held in Portland, Oregon this past October. Abigail presented, “Beauty in the Imperfections- Transforming Found Treasures into Something New and Meaningful”. Her presentation discussed her art and process of exploring found objects, wabi sabi philosophy and the theme of imperfections. Participants learned how to incorporate these themes into their own art and therapy practice and were invited to create a meaningful piece of art of their own from found objects.

The Ron E. Hays presenter award recognizes an individual who promotes the development and public awareness of art therapy through research, education, and professional standards. legislation, and public forums.

Along with presenting at the national conference, Abby also was part of an all member art exhibition as well as an art marketplace where she displayed and sold her artisan jewelry.

Following her presentation Abby visited the Oregon Coast in search of found objects and inspiration to incorporate into future artwork.

Abigail Oxford, ATR- BC, LPC, Instructor of Art Therapy
Abigail obtained her MA in Art Therapy from Marywood University and BA in Art & Design, minor in Psychology from East Stroudsburg University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Pennsylvania and holds registration and board certification in Art Therapy (ATR-BC). Additionally, she is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR). Abigail is a member of the American Art Therapy Association, Pennsylvania Art Therapy Association and the EMDR International Association. Furthermore, Abigail operates her own professional practice where she treats adult clients. Abigail’s clinical experience spans over the past decade and encompasses diverse settings covering the human lifespan including, inpatient and outpatient mental health facilities, medical, oncology, memory care and telehealth settings. Her treatment areas include anxiety, stress, depression, emotional regulation, negative core beliefs, life transitions, grief, loss and trauma. Abby maintains her artist identity and creates art through the electroform process. She finds inspiration among natural colors, shapes, textures and the various found objects she collects and documents. Her nuanced collections invite others to appreciate the beauty of imperfections and the unique story behind each piece. The Master of Arts in Art Therapy is a 60-credit program that follows guidelines for art therapy training recommended by the American Art Therapy Association. Degrees are available in Art Therapy and Studio Arts in Ceramics, Sculpture, Painting, Printmaking, and Photography.
