Hello my friends! I hope everyone’s summer vacation is off to a fantastic start! I know that I’m enjoying some much needed rest and relaxation. I’m very excited for this blog post today because it covers some super exciting news! As you may remember from one of my earlier posts, last summer I spent a month in Kenya serving and volunteering. I’m so happy to let you all know that I’ll be returning to the same location, the Dorothea Rescue Centre, to serve in just a few short days. The bad news: this will be my last post until I return home in mid June. Try not to miss me too much!
On my last trip to Africa, I used glue, paper, and pebbles from the school yard to teach the children an art project. Those pebbles were the absolute best we could do supplies wise. Despite that, the kids LOVED the idea and had so much fun creating a piece of their very own. I saw first hand how their confidence and enthusiasm grew after this experience. Therefore, my personal goal for this service trip is to expose the kids I work with to art and help them discover their own creativity. For that reason, one entire suitcase is already packed with as much art supplies as I could get together. I’ve packed up colored pencils, markers, crayons, coloring books, paper, craft scissors, pencil sharpeners, erasers, stickers, stamps, and more. I really want to aid in their artistic development and expression.
This is where you come in! I have a couple projects in mind for me to teach, but I’m looking for more ideas! If you have any suggestions, I urge you to please comment or message me. I am so excited to teach art to the most deserving and incredible kids when I return to my favorite place on earth! Ill chat with you all when I get back! Kwaheri! (Bye in Swahili)

Enjoy your trip to Kenya, they are lucky to have you back! I love the idea of using handprints and thumbprints in their art. Kids love to get a little messy 🎨
How about some type of self-portrait? How they see themselves could be very eye-opening and lots of fun! They are lucky to have your enthusiasm and positivity to guide them! God Bless!
