Hello friends! I hope everyone’s summer is off to a great start! As you all know, I’ve just returned home from my second 3 week service learning trip to Kenya! I am so pleased to say that my experience was just as incredible as the first time, if not more! Thank you all so much for your well wishes! As sad as I am to have left, I am so happy to be home and getting back into the swing of things. It feels like it’s been months since I’ve done one of these blog posts!
As I’ve been home, I’ve really been enjoying my time reflecting and reminiscing on the trip. One thing that really stands out to me is how eager the kids I served are to make art. They were beyond thrilled any time we did an art project or craft.
The girls at the Dorothea Rescue Centre (where I lived and worked) particularly enjoyed playing with clay and sculpting. One day, we spent hours modeling and shaping the clay into anything on our minds. They made phones, food, candy, animals, and more! I was so impressed with their creativity. They were all so proud of their work and very excited to pose for a photo with their masterpieces. Their confidence visibly increased when they completed their creations, and it was so rewarding to help show them what they’re capable of.
The children at Our Lady of Assumption Mission School were very excited to learn about art and even requested to remake a craft we completed last year when I was there! I happily did this with them. I drew the outline of houses and chicks for the kids to put glue on and sprinkle sand and pebbles from outside on. They loved it! Yet again, the kids were overjoyed to pose with their art for a photo! Seeing them all so proud was truly so special.
That’s all for today! I hope you enjoyed reading a bit about my experience in Kenya!

Looks like the girls were lucky to have you visit again! Art knows no boundaries!
