Blogger Role: Art Therapy

Major: Art Therapy

Minor: Psychology

Clubs: N/A

I chose Marywood because of its small and beautiful campus, the welcoming environment, and the artistic opportunities it offers! Marywood is one of the only universities in the area that offers Art Therapy as a major, and it ended up being the perfect fit for me!

I am majoring in Art because I want to help share the therapeutic properties of art with the world!

When I’m not in class, I love to spend time with my friends and family, create art, read, and take care of my pets.

So far, my favorite art class at Marywood was Sculpture I with Stephen Colley. The assignments that were given allowed me to explore a wide range of materials, and find what works best for me. Because of this, I discovered my love for glass work and clay. I am currently taking Ceramics and Painting II, and I cannot wait to see what these courses have to offer!

The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was when I attended the art department field trips to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Philadelphia Museum of Art, as well as the art exhibitions that Marywood hosts. These opportunities gave me a chance to view art from different perspectives and cultures!

When I graduate I would like to be a Registered Art Therapist. I am unsure of what population I would like to focus on, but I am interested in how art therapy works for different people.

I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because there are so many opportunities and unique courses that give students the chance to explore and challenge themselves. The art professors are incredibly skilled and supportive, and the small class sizes make it easy to get one-on-one help.
