I chose Marywood because of its small and beautiful campus that felt welcoming and encouraging. I am a quieter person and it takes a lot for me to feel comfortable in a new space, but as I walked around Maywood, I felt incredibly at peace. The campus was utterly beautiful, with a view of the mountains that I had never gotten to experience before, as I had been coming from Maryland.
I am majoring in Art because I love conveying ideas and themes through designs. I’m a problem solver and enjoy finding solutions that I can transfer through my art, which I can use to share with others how life can be interpreted and enjoyed. This is why I’m interested in venturing into Graphic Design as a major. Life is full of color, movement, and shapes, and that’s what I want to be able to capture in my art. As an artist I would be able to devote my life to looking for the beauty of life and communicating it through my work.
When I’m not in class, I’m often further developing my skills as an artist and exploring my capabilities. I love creating collages out of pieces of paper that I collect and I also enjoy collecting flowers, leaves, or other pieces of life to combine with my art. I also adore spending time with friends and family, cooking, watching movies, or playing games with them brings me joy. But between all of those things I enjoy having moments to myself, as an introvert I often need time to reset and recharge after a long day. So to do that exploring different hobbies such as thrifting, writing, or softball. I enjoy learning and I’m always looking for new and interesting skills to experience.
So far, my favorite art class at Marywood was Digital illustration. It really opened my eyes to the digital world of art, and introduced me to a whole new set of skills to try and master. Before the class I had been quite hesitant to delve into such a broad medium, but I found it incredibly interesting to learn. And I’m looking forward to further developing my skills with it in the years to come.
The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was being a part of Marywood’s softball team. I was lucky enough to be a part of the team as we played in the AEC championship. We ended up placing second in the event and it was an experience that I’ll always remember. I’m grateful to have had that opportunity to experience life as a college athlete and forever will be grateful for the friends I’ve made through it.
When I graduate I hope to have a better understanding of who I am as an artist and how I can contribute to my community. I’m open to going into a lot of different fields within my major, but I’m currently a bit unsure of where I will end up. But I’m incredibly excited to see where life takes me.
I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because of its amazing care that its faculty extend to their students. They have created an encouraging and welcoming learning environment which has helped me further develop my skills and confidence in my craft.
