ITALIA STOREY (CLASS OF 2026)
Blogger Role: Printmaking
Major: Graphic Design
Minor: Animation
I chose Marywood because my favorite teacher from high school is a very talented graphic designer who earned his degree here. Additionally, Marywood is local to me and is known to have an excellent art department, which made me feel confident in my decision to attend.
I am majoring in Art because as a child growing up in the early 2000s, I was fascinated with computers and always had an interest in art. Teachers frequently yelled at me for doodling during class time. I was the kind of kid who always received the big art kits with markers that were somehow always dry during Christmas time. I remember spending hours on MS Paint and Kid Pix, exploring the brushes and colors while envisioning myself as a successful artist. As I got older and began attending CTC of Lackawanna County for Graphic Design in high school, I discovered my passion for graphic art and design, and I knew I wanted to pursue art professionally.
When I’m not in class, I’m usually working or enjoying the beautiful views and nature that surround Northeastern Pennsylvania.
So far, my favorite art class at Marywood has to be my Introduction to Graphic Design with Ky Betts, as I really enjoyed completing the various projects I was assigned and created a few of my favorite portfolio pieces for that class.
The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was go on the trip to The Met Museum in NYC. I had never been to The Met before, so it was truly a great opportunity, and I had such a fun experience admiring all of the beautiful works of art the museum had to offer.
When I graduate, I am interested in pursuing a career in creative marketing or package design. I enjoy creating unique concepts with cartoony styles to convey an idea or represent a product. Additionally, I am interested in motion graphics because I appreciate the challenge and art of enhancing videos and creating graphics.
I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because of the diverse set of classes offered that introduce students to new techniques of creating art. I also immediately felt welcomed by all of my professors and feel that my art skills have improved so much ever since I began attending Marywood.
