I chose Marywood because it checked all of the boxes for me. I was looking for a small, Catholic university that was no more than two hours from home and Marywood offered me these things and so much more! The feeling of being on campus just felt instantly comfortable to me and I was so impressed by all that it had to offer. I visited eight schools after Marywood and just kept coming back because I knew it was the right fit for me!!
I am majoring in Art because I randomly took an Art History class with Dr. Christa Irwin and ended up loving it so much that I changed my major! I have always thought I would end up in a career that would combine my academic side and my artistic side, so once I found this path, I was so excited!
When I’m not in class, I’m either studying, at the Learning Commons getting another coffee to fuel my busy days, or spending some time with my friends. I also love going to zumba and bible study in the evenings! If I have a second to catch my breath, you may find me reading Harry Potter in french.
So far, my favorite art class at Marywood was History of Art I. It was my first introduction to the world of art history and therefore has such a special place in my heart! That class was full of discussion and analysis of art and was so much fun to take.
The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was participating in the production Sense and Sensibility put on by Marywood Players. I stepped way out of my comfort zone as an actor doing this show and met so many wonderful friends throughout the process. It was such an awesome experience to be a part of!
When I graduate I hope to do a lot of traveling! I do plan on completing more school to hopefully get a higher degree, but I have a passion for seeing the world and I hope to be able to take some time to explore either before or after doing some more education. I also have a passion for religious art and would love to work in a cathedral or other religious center!
I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because everyone wants to see you thrive. The staff and professors are so passionate about their work and genuinely want you to cultivate that same passion into your work! College is such an exciting time so having people that are encouraging you and are as excited as you are is so pivotal to the learning experience.
