Maxwell Christian (Class of 2023)
Blogger Role: On Campus Art News
Major: Graphic Design
I chose Marywood because I like the location, the campus, and the facilities. It offers a strong Art program and is located in an area in Scranton that’s easy to get to, but is still separate enough from anything to be peaceful.
I am majoring in Art because I want to develop new techniques, skills, and forms of artistic expression. Even in my earliest memories, I’ve always had a connection to art and consider it to be, on some level, part of who I am. So I guess I’m trying to explore that more.
When I’m not in class, I’m listening to/playing music, making, cooking, eating, doodling, working or sleeping.
So far, my favorite art class at Marywood was 2D Design. I thought it was useful to learn and practice fundamental ideas that drive visual art. It’s easy to tell when a piece of art looks “good” but it’s more challenging to understand why. This projects in this class gave me better decision-making skills when it came to my own art.
The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was…taking the fall bus trip to New York and exploring the Met Museum!
When I graduate I will figure something out…I genuinely don’t know. I would love to be a part-time museum docent when I’m an old man, though!
I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because facilities are incredible, the professors are great, and the classes allow room for creative expression and unique ideas.
