Major: Arts Administration

Minors: Art History

I chose Marywood because it offers Arts Administration which allows me to pursue my love of art history. Being able to explore and understand the past through a creative lens was something I was really interested in. From the very beginning, everyone at Marywood was so helpful, welcoming, and made me excited to start my college years. I also wanted to stay local and feel close to my school, so this was the perfect option.

I am majoring in Art because I had the opportunity to take an art history course in high school and after that I completely fell in love with the idea of studying art history. Art is something I’ve always connected to and felt I could both get lost in and find myself in. Art and Art History allow me to be more creative and think so much deeper about the world around me.

When I’m not in class, I’m spending time with family or friends. Most of the time you can find me at Nay Aug Park here in Scranton. It’s a great place to relax and get some fresh air, or even go and visit the Everhart Museum. Other than that, I’m probably trying to find some local events to attend.

So far, my favorite art class at Marywood was Art History II with Dr. Irwin. I love Dr. Irwin’s classes because they really allow everyone to come together and talk about art with their own personal opinions and inferences. You get to learn about art and different historical periods while diving deep into techniques and meanings behind the works. The class was really close and genuinely so much fun, I always looked forward to it.

The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was go to New York City for the art trip to visit The Met. This was such an amazing opportunity to experience art and art history outside of the classroom. For someone who hadn’t been to The Met before, I was blown away. There’s something about using art history skills you’ve acquired and seeing works that you have discussed in class, that is unlike anything else. Trips like these get me really excited for what the future holds and what I want to do with my degree.

When I graduate I would love to work in a museum. Right now my goal is to become a museum curator. Museums have always been my happy place where I get so excited, so to work in one would be amazing. I’m also always open to new ideas and paths I can take with Arts Administration so I’m excited for whatever the future holds.

I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because it something you can take and make your own. You can explore whatever interests you have and you will always have professors who will be behind you, helping and encouraging you along the way.
