I chose Marywood because it was the closest school to me that had art therapy as an undergraduate and graduate program. I also chose this university because it has a small town feel just like my hometown.
I am majoring in Art Therapy because art has a certain power that can help manifest feelings and emotions better than any words ever could. I believe that my purpose is to help others and if I can do that with the help of art then that makes it even better.
When I am not in class, you can find me working at American Eagle, in the ceramics studio, or watching Netflix in bed.
My favorite art class so far has been ceramics. I am currently in Ceramics II. I love throwing on the wheel and making art work that can also be functional.
The coolest thing I’ve done at Maywood so far was study abroad over spring break in Paris, France. Seeing pieces by Cezanne and Van Gogh in person instead of on the screen during class has to be one of the highlights of my life, for sure.
When I graduate, I plan to come back to Marywood to study for my masters in Art Therapy. After grad school I plan on working with Alzheimer and Dementia patients.
I’d recommend the Art Program at Marywood because not only do teachers inspire you but so do the students around you. Most of the things I have been taught have come from peers who Love art just as much as me. Being surrounded constantly by immense talent is incredibly inspiring and helpful.
