I chose Marywood because I knew it was the right decision the first time I visited the campus and met the people here. I had a long list of schools, but Marywood was the first that I visited and I kept coming back to it.
I am majoring in Art because it is what I love to do and I have always seen myself making art as an occupation. I also want to reach my potential and I feel confident that I will through this program.
When I’m not in class, I’m drawing, making music, and making the most of my time here. I also enjoy hanging out with friends and learning about art outside of classes.
So far, my favorite art class at Marywood was all of my animation minor courses which I especially loved. I think my favorites were Character Design and 2D Animation with Ky Betts and James Romberger. These classes taught me a lot of useful skills and I always looked forward to going. Even outside of art classes, I have had so many amazing courses that I never expected to like. The reason why they were so good is because when a teacher is passionate about what they’re teaching and cares about their students, it always seems to make the most seemingly uninteresting classes fun and interesting.
The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was improving at a level I didn’t expect to reach before coming to Marywood. Through my art, I was able to make appealing pictures for others, but I wanted to do more than that and create things that I could be proud of. In my time here, I have not only refined my skills, but learned a great deal about the importance of art and what it means to me. Even outside of art, I’ve made great leaps in myself and I have been a lot more open and confident prior to coming to Marywood.
When I graduate I want to continue learning and making new connections. I hope to get many different types of jobs in the arts and experience new opportunities. Although I know the future probably isn’t what I will expect, I am excited to see what it holds for me. I am very hopeful that whatever I end up doing, I’ll be happy doing it.
I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because it is a fantastic learning experience and every teacher and student genuinely cares. Along with gaining experience, it also provides a welcoming environment for everyone. All of my classmates along with myself have made huge improvements in our artwork.
