This week in Screen Printing class we just focused on more photo emulsion prints (check last weeks post if you want a more in depth explanation of the process), and Prof. Chris Medley taught us how to print a graphic from the computer onto transparency paper to emulsify the screen! It’s really simple to just take a photo or a graphic into Photoshop and use the Threshold option under Image Adjustments to create a black and white, printable image. Then once it’s printed onto transparency paper, we photo emulsified it with the machine, washed it out, and it is ready to be screen printed!
Chris gave us some creative freedom to print whatever we want while we’re still experimenting with the process, so I decided to make two graphics that I would actually use and want to hang on my wall! I decided to do a vintage style poster of Nashville, Tennessee because I want to visit the city of country music so badly. So I took a photo of the main street in Nashville from a free photo website and collaged it with a sort of grungy looking American flag behind it. I added some text on the top and bottom that says Nashville, Tennessee and it was ready to be printed! I also did a second print that has some cowboy boots in a row with a reference to a bible verse that I admire, that I also want to hang up and even gift these to my friends and family with the same interests!

I was having so much fun with these prints that I made way too many than I need, but the inking and printing process is so fast and easy I wanted to experiment with so many colors for backgrounds. I just went with a solid white color for the Cowboy boots print, and it looked so good on so many different colors of 8.5 by 11 inch paper!
Below is the Nashville, Tennessee graphic I created on Adobe Illustrator and to the right of it is how it turned out once it was printed. I chose a navy blue color to print it in and the details held up amazingly!

I am extremely happy with how these have turned out and can’t wait to hang them up and/or frame them. Next week we start a bigger project which I am very excited for, so I’ll be sure to write about the process in my next post! Hope everyone has a great week!
