I’m going to begin separating these into two categories for each of my 3D classes. It just seems right 🙂
Ceramics

Firstly, I’ve made a new business card holder that should be ready by the time the Marywood craft fair rolls around. It’s in Upper Naz on Oct.17 2025! I tend to make sculptures for two reasons… either for functionality or because I want to make a cute lil guy. Ideally the functional ones also end up cute. I needed a business card, and I wanted it to be cute and fun, so this time I went for a kitty! I’ll probably end up glazing it like my cat. It should be ready to glaze by next week, so we shall see what I do.

I started making ceramic beads as well. This is a bit boring compared to my usual antics, but I want to string them together to create a bead lizard! I’ve made half of the beads so far. It’s very repetitive, but I’m hopeful I can get through the rest. I’m sure I’ll be posting the finished project within the next few weeks.

My most recent ceramics work is my environmental project. I started off knowing I wanted to make a spotted lanternfly, since it’s been a bit since I made a bug. It felt too easy though and not fun enough, so I looked up some native species that have been preying on the lanternfly. I found this picture of a chickadee with a lanternfly, and I’ve been wanting to make a bird for a bit, so I made this bird and lanternfly. I’ll connect them with thin wire after they’ve been fired, and I’ll use thicker wire to make the legs of the bird, and a branch for it to sit on. I’m excited to glaze the piece and see it in its fully formed state.
Sculpture

The unicorn I made for sculpture is now complete! Here’s the standalone head before I constructed it. I started adding these lines for emphasis.

I got it to stand! I think I could have done the proportions a tad better, but I like that the eye is see-through and that I got the tail to work out… and that I got it to stand at all. I decided to do the black lines all throughout the piece to give it a bit of a “2D in 3D” look. I wish I had planned out my lines like I did on the face. I feel like those ones look better… but hey, it’s done! That’s what matters.
Balancing all of these projects has been a labor of love, and I’ll hopefully continue to keep up with it all. Much much more to come!
